    “Thank You” vs. “I’m Sorry”

    July 24, 2018 /

I’m someone who apologizes a lot. Like a lot. I accidentally touch your foot? I’m sorry. I bumped into a wall? I’m sorry, wall. I ask you how you’re doing? I’m sorry. Most of the time when I apologize, it doesn’t really make sense. I notice that I apologize more when I’m having a bad day. The worse I feel about myself that day, the more I apologize, the more I want to go away and hide somewhere and stop bothering everybody. The reality is…I’m probably not botheringΒ every body, maybe someone here and there, but that’s life! People bother people…that does not mean I have to beat myself up…

    Your Body is Not You

    July 17, 2018 /

Your body is not you. Your body is a part of you, but it’s not all of you. You are body and soul. Body + soul = you. Alright, I think you get my message. Are you rolling your eyes at me yet? I talked about body image in my first post, especially since I think about my body and how it looks a lot. In fact, there’s a rare moment when I am not thinking about my body. Aren’t we sort of trained to think about our bodies all the time though? I mean, how many times do you scroll through your Instagram feed and see countless bodies showing…

Feeling lonely in a new environment? Same…but we shall not give up!

    July 10, 2018 /

Howdy, folks! Happy I hope your Tuesday is going super well so far. πŸ™‚ Over these past few days, I have been attending an orientation/training for my next internship that starts in September. It makes me very sleepy, and I am often trying to think of resources I can provide you with. Stay tuned for whatever I come up with! Today, I would like to continue our discussion on loneliness that we touched upon last week (I hope you had an awesome 4th of July, by the way!). Because I am trying to make new friends, and I have been attending an orientation for my internship, I am working on…

    Loneliness & PTSD

    July 3, 2018 /

Hello, everyone!! Happy (almost) Fourth of July! Independence Day! Woo! My favorite song to listen to during this time of year is “Drunk Americans” by Toby Keith. It’s more about how we are all Americans rather than drinking! πŸ˜‚ It reminds me that we can all laugh and get along, rather than constantly fight and point out our differences, in our country that has a lot to be proud of. Many people during this time of year are going on vacation. This may mean a great time or a time of boredom and loneliness. Sometimes, even when we are surrounded by people we love and who love us back, we…

You can treat yourself AND live a healthy lifestyle! You don't have to track your food to be healthy by any means. It is something I do for myself though! Today, I'm treating myself to a pumpkin spice latte! I'm having @nespresso from home mixed with @premierprotein Pumpkin Spice protein! It's the best protein shake I've ever tasted - and I have tried MANY and hated them ALL. But this one is pretty tolerable!! I wish I added cinnamon but I was rushing out of the house!! This is 2 smart bites on @itrackbites or 2 original smart points from @ww ☺️ How are you practicing self-care today?

Instagram post 2123659077006476719_7077625295 I forgot to post about this book when I read it in my last semester of graduate school for my class on addiction. I also didn't have a photo for it, so I reposted this photo from another instagram account πŸ˜‚ check out the account below!
.
Anyway, I haven't seen the movie yet, but this book by @david__sheff is incredible. It really opened my eyes in terms of understanding addiction better. I don't know if I'll ever fully get it, as I haven't ever experienced it and I'm grateful to have not witnessed it too much either, but I want you to know that addiction is a painful affliction. Even though there are harsh times, you can get through it. Be there for others. ❀️
.
I highly recommend this book. Have you read this book or watched the @beautifulboymovie ? Let me know your thoughts below!
.
I added a new "Books" highlight to fill you in on what I've been reading πŸ€“ Some may not all be (mental) health related, but books are awesome, so...who cares!?

Instagram post 2119403060450220322_7077625295 I asked a silly question today.
.
Except...I didn't!
.
I often get nervous talking to people and asking questions. I often think I'm stupid. I often think that I am a bother to others.
.
These thoughts are almost constantly running through my mind.
.
Today, I went to my local library to pick out a book to read for FUN!! I can't remember the last time I did that πŸ˜‚ but since I'm finally out of school, I'm trying to figure out how to just enjoy life and have fun and focus on building my character. I mean, I tried to do that while in school as well, obviously, but now I can dedicate more time to me! *hairflip*
.
So, I grabbed my book, and I searched throughout the entire library for language learning software. 🀣 I've wanted to learn Spanish for a VERY long time, especially since I've wanted to work in social work. Being bilingual would allow me to help so many more people. Since I couldn't find anything anywhere, I thought it would be very dumb for me to ask about it. I fought myself multiple times before going to the librarian. I eventually mustered the courage - yes, courage - to ask my question. To my warning that my question may be silly, she responded, "I LOVE silly questions!" She helped me out and showed me an even better resource than I wanted to learn languages. Had I not taken the simple step to ask my question, I would have missed out on these knowledge nuggets.
.
Do the thing. Do the thing, big or small, that scares you, especially if you think it can be really good for your growth!
Instagram post 2116447657534638117_7077625295 I did not know what I was doing in this photo, just like how I don't know what to write about right now πŸ™ƒ What (mental) health topic should I write about next? I want your input! Comment below ⬇️

Instagram post 2099680347406023034_7077625295 I just finished Daring Greatly by @brenebrown. I received this book as a gift (thank you, Mara - if you ever see this message) after I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Social Work a year ago. I'm not a huge reader, though I enjoy it, and I finally finished this book today! Only took me a year πŸ˜‚ Even though it took me awhile, I enjoyed every page. This book has SO MANY golden nuggets that teach you about vulnerability, shame, guilt, and bravery. Your mind will likely be blown away every time you pick this up, and I think it's a must read for parents. I hope I remember this book if/when I become a parent years from now. ❀️ If you're not a parent or planning to be, I think this is still such a good read that helps you do some soul searching and helps you understand your memories and emotions. Highly recommend!
